Moldova: Grain Production Rises by 8%

  Moldovan gross agricultural production exceeded 24.141 billion lei from January to September, up 3.2% from the same period last year.

  Increase is due to crop production growth by 7.4%, while livestock production has been declining by 4.9% , National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova reported infotag.md.

 The production of grains and pulses reached 2.09 million tons, 8.2% up from last year, according to preliminary data. Of these total wheat – 1.13 million tons (below 2.9%), corn – 731.5 thousand tons (up 37.7%), barley – 167.3 thousand tons (down 4.6%), pulses – around 57.2 thousand tons (up 25.5%). This year wheat yielded up 4.1% to 32.7 c/ ha, barley – up 16.3% to 32.1 c/ ha, vegetables – up 15% - to 91.4 c/ha, and leguminous crops – up more than 50% to 30.7 c/ha from the same time last year. Meanwhile, corn for grain yielded 22% below to 43 c/ ha, soybean – by 21.4% – to 18.4 c/ha, grapes – by 17.6% to 71.3 c/ha, sugar beets – by 6.3% – up to 382.3 c/ha, fruits with seeds – by 3.9% to 140.3 c / ha.
