October 30. Russian Grain Harvest Reaches 122.1 Million Tons

 As of October 30, 2019, grains and pulses were harvested from 44.6 million hectares or 95.3% of the area under crops (in 2018 – 43.9 million hectares), according to the operational data of the agribusiness management institutions of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Production reached 122.1 million vs. 113.7 million tons last year with yield of 27.4 centners per hectare. At the same time a year ago, in 2018, grains and pulses yielded at 25.9 centners per hectare.

 In particular, wheat was harvested from an area of 27.5 million hectares or 98% of the planted area compared to 26.3 million hectares at the same time last year, 77.6 million tons of grain (in 2018 - 73.2 million tons) were produced with yields of 28.2 centners per hectare this year and, respectively, 27.9 centners per hectare in 2018. Barley was harvested from 8.5 million hectares, or 96.6% of the planted area compared to 7.8 million hectares last year, 21.5 million tons were produced (17.6 million tons in 2018) with yield of 25.3 centners per hectare compared to 22.4 centners per hectare last year. Corn for grain was harvested from 1.8 million hectares or 69.8% of the planted area, harvested production reached 10.8 million with yield of 59.7 centners per hectare. In 2018 corn production reached 9.2 million tons with yield of 48.3 centners per hectare. Rice was harvested from 177.2 thousand hectares or 91.3% of the planted area (in 2018 - 165.4 thousand hectares), 1.2 million tons were produced with yield of 66.7 centners per hectare compared to 1.1 million tons last year with yield of 66.1 centners per hectare.

Flaxseed was harvested from an area of 43.5 thousand hectares or 86% of the planted area compared with 41.8 thousand hectares in the same period last year.

Sunflower was harvested from 7.2 million hectares or 84.3% of the planted area. In 2018 sunflower hectares reached 7 million hectares, 13.3 million tons of seeds were produced compared to 11.1 million tons last year with yield of 18.6 centners per hectare (in 2018 - 15.8 centners per hectare).

Soybean was harvested from 80.6% of the planted area with yield of 16.8 centners per hectare on 2.5 million hectares. Production was estimated at 4.1 million tons. 2018 soy area was estimated at 2.3 million hectares, production reached 3.6 million tons with yield of 15.6 centners per hectare.

Rapeseed was harvested from 1.4 million hectares or 89.2% of the planted area, 2.2 million tons were produced (2.1 million tons in 2018) with yield of 15.7 centners per hectare (14.3 centners per hectare in 2018).

Winter planting is 102.8% complete on 18 million hectares compared to 17.5 million hectares last year.
