Ministry of Agriculture Creates New Russian Brand of Eco-Friendly Goods

 The Ministry of Agriculture chose the name “The Green One” for the Russian brand of environmentally-friendly products, "Izvestia" reported, quoting Andrei Guryev, the head of the Russian Association of fertilizer producers. The AgMinistry confirmed the report. Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, assigned earlier to create a trademark for the export of such products.

 The trademark confirms that only safe technologies are used in the production of goods. It will serve as a guarantee of quality in the foreign and domestic markets. The President believes that Russian “green” products will be popular abroad. Designing a logo for these products is now ongoing.

 The production begins on January 1, 2021, the federal law on organic products will have entered into force by this time. One of the ideas of the Ministry of Agriculture is to add norms of regulations in respect of the production and exchange of goods with improved environmental characteristics, i.e. indicators of quality and safety of raw materials and food. The new regulation will help to reduce the negative impact of production on the environment, human health and climate and improve the properties of food products in the Russian Federation. Fertilizers and feeds of a higher quality will be used instead of cloning and genetic engineering methods. The ministry palns to limit the use of food additives, flavors, enhancers and enzyme preparations. 

More expensive but better

 Oleg Mironenko, the executive director of the National Union of Organic Producers and Consumers, reminded that the European environmentally-friendly strategy enters into force in 2022. The requirements for the agricultural production and characteristics are restricted and Russia also follows this way, gradually abandoning fertilizers and feeds, which contain salts and metals in an amount that can harm the environment. The Director General of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) Dmitry Rylko believes that in the future Russia can supply abroad a large range of green food products – from raw materials to finished goods. The expert is sure that they will be popular. But while the country is still on the way to the production of eco-goods, first of all, we will be exporting our grains, cereals and vegetable oils with improved characteristics.

 The Russian Export Center (REC) told Izvestia earlier that East Asia, the Middle East and European countries show high interest in our organic products. For example, China is buying fish and seafood, soy, vegetable oils, confectionery, drinks, fish, wheat flour and canola. Russia also supplies halal products to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. Since 2017, REC has been promoting the export brands “Made in Russia” and “Good Food Russia”.
