Wheat export shipments transported by rail amounted to 1.265 million tons in October 2019, 3% down from September and 6.5%, respectively, from October 2018, including domestic deliveries to southern ports with subsequent export, reported agn. Grain Online.

The North Caucasus Economic Region has increased export shipments by 12.4% from September and tops the ranking again. Meanwhile, shipments have dropped by 22% in Central Black Earth Region, by 11.6%  in Volga Region and by 16.5% in Central Russia.

The October changes in top suppliers of wheat for export can be explained by the strengthening of domestic prices, as well as the associated slowdown in exports.

The share of the North Caucasus in the total wheat export shipments increased from 35%  in September to almost 40%. Within the North Caucasus, the Stavropol Territory is the leading region (54.5%). The share of the Krasnodar Territory has grown from 27.6% to 33.3%.

Inside the Central Chechen Republic, the share of the Kursk region of nearly 45% holds the first position. Lipetsk region’s share accounts for nearly 29%. The region is in second place again unchanged from September.

The share of the Volgograd region has grown to 55.3% while total shipments reduced. The Saratov region remains in second place, although its share has decreased from 35.6% to 29.8%.

In October, Russian freight railroads carried wheat to 18 foreign importers vs. 16 in September. The leading buyer was still Egypt (43.7%). Azerbaijan’s share accounted for 18.3%, Turkey’s –13.1%.

For Egypt, wheat was harvested across 16 regions of Russia vs. 12 regions in September, indicating certain problems with the search for relatively cheap grain of good quality. The regions of the North Caucasus accounted for 58.8% compared to 54.7% in September, the Central Black Earth and Central regions – 23% (26%), the Volga region – around 14.8% (18.7%), Western Siberia – 3. 2% (0.6%).
