The Agricultural Ministry expects that Russia will reach a total grain export potential value in the current agricultural year, reported Dmitry Patrushev, the Minister of Agriculture, at a meeting on preliminary results of grain exports held on November 7. The event was attended by the heads of Rosselkhoznadzor, the Union of Grain Exporters, the United Grain Company and representatives of the largest grain companies.

The head of the Ministry noted that this year the gross harvest is estimated at 120 million tons of grain, up 6% from last year. “The expected volume of domestic grain consumption is unchanged from 2018. Thus, the export potential volume of crops in the current agricultural year is 45 million tons, of these 36 million tons – wheat, according to our estimates. In addition, the increase in grain export prices will contribute to the realization,” said Dmitry Patrushev.

The Ministry of Agriculture forecast Russia’s exports in November-December 2019, to reach 7-8 million tons of grain worth about 1.5-1.7 billion dollars. Thus, the final figures of the calendar year in the range of about 40-41 million tons generally correspond to the optimistic plan of the “Grain Strategy”.

At the meeting, the Minister also praised the work of the Union of Grain Exporters in promoting Russian agricultural products abroad and creating a platform for effective dialogue between all market participants. The Russian AgMinistry on a permanent basis interacts with the Union on various issues, including the opening of new export markets and the removal of the import tariffs . The sector will be able to achieve significant results due to the coordinated position of the state and business, Dmitry Patrushev said.
