The Ministry of Agriculture Held a Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council on Agriculture of the CIS

On December 12, the 32nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Council on the AIC of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. The meeting was chaired by the First Deputy Minister Dzhambulat Khatuov. The event was attended by the heads of agricultural departments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, as well as the Executive Committee of the CIS and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

Opening the meeting, Dzhambulat Khatuov noted the importance of regular meetings of representatives of Commonwealth states and recalled that cooperation in the agricultural sector remains one of the most important and most promising areas of international cooperation.

Foreign trade in agricultural products and food with the CIS countries is one of the key export interests of Russia: for 9 months of 2019, agricultural trade increased by 9.3%, reaching $ 8.5 billion.

As stated by the First Deputy Minister, a joint discussion of the current agricultural agenda will contribute to further deepening of cooperation. “In resolving current issues, the synchronous work of the countries of the Intergovernmental Council is important, which will give a new impetus to the development of the agro-industrial complex of our states,” said Dzhambulat Khatuov.

Speaking about joint projects, the First Deputy Minister outlined the main tasks, the solution of which will lead to a further deepening of cooperation between the countries. These include ensuring phytosanitary and veterinary security of countries, eliminating trade barriers, harmonizing and unifying national methods for testing varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops, as well as agrochemicals, machinery and equipment.

In addition, during the meeting, participants discussed the development of the fishery complex of the Russian Federation, as well as issues affecting the technical and technological modernization of agriculture, agricultural science, agricultural machinery and the development of viticulture.
